Mornin' bro!
“Mornin’ bro!” I hear behind me. I don’t have to turn to see who it is. Sam greets his classmates this way every morning as he walks through our classroom door. His voice is cheerful and friendly and his peers respond happily, as they nonchalantly say “morning bro!” back to him. He goes to his seat, unpacks and easily joins in with morning inquiry activities. Sam doesn’t use ‘bro’ at any other time of day, nor does he use the term towards a particular friend. I don’t know where he heard the phrase or if he started this routine prior to first grade. I just know that it is one of the most cheerful ways to start the day. And as we endure yet another 'atmospheric river' event this week, it is just the greeting we need to set the tone for our day!
Sometimes kids just make me smile. I love the added picture of the backpack!
ReplyDeleteWe have a few students who use that term of endearment, too. I can just see your guy bopping along and greeting everyone. Such a happy slice!
ReplyDeleteThis made me chuckle because we have junior high kids who refer to us teachers as a "bro." As in, "What do you mean, bro? Why do I have to that, bro? Come on, bro!" It drives us crazy at the junior high!! I love the way this first grader brings his uniqueness to greet his friends!
ReplyDeleteThis tickles me. I have four boys, 6, 9, (soon to be) 15 and 17, and "bro" has become quite the universal term in my house. I have since learned that they forget I'm mom, and want to call me "bro," too. It's fairly hilarious. That being said, I can see that it is a term of endearment, and I'm even more amused to hear my littles one use it!
